Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about our services and gas engineering in general.
Yes. In the UK it is illegal for anyone who is not on the Gas Safe Register to carry out gas work. MCM Gas Installer is fully Gas Safe registered and can provide their registration details on request.
Boilers should be serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Regular servicing keeps your boiler running safely and efficiently, maintains your manufacturer warranty, and helps prevent expensive breakdowns.
A like-for-like boiler replacement typically takes one day. A more complex installation, or one that involves moving the boiler location or upgrading pipework, may take two days. We will give you a clear timeframe when we provide your quote.
A CP12 is a gas safety record that landlords are legally required to obtain every 12 months. It confirms that all gas appliances, pipework, and flues in a rented property have been inspected by a Gas Safe registered engineer and are safe to use. Tenants must be provided with a copy within 28 days of the inspection.
Common signs include cold spots on radiators (especially at the bottom), radiators taking a long time to heat up, discoloured water when bleeding radiators, frequent boiler breakdowns, and unusual noises from the boiler or pipework. Power flushing is also recommended before installing a new boiler.
If you smell gas: don't turn any electrical switches on or off, don't use naked flames, open windows and doors, turn off the gas supply at the meter, evacuate the building, and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 (free, 24/7). Once the emergency is resolved, contact MCM Gas Installer to carry out any necessary repairs.
